For over 50 years Europa Nostra has celebrated, protected and lobbied for cultural heritage. It is today recognised as the most representative heritage organisation in Europe with members from over 40 countries.

1963

1994-1998

Europa Nostra acts as the coordinator of the European Heritage Group. In 1998 Europa Nostra was recognised by the European Commission as a pan – European umbrella organisation in the field of cultural heritage.

2009

Reform of the Europa Nostra Governance system and Statute.

2013

Launch of the 7 most endangered programme for endangered heritage. 

1991

Europa Nostra merged with the International Castles Institute (IBI) – itself founded in 1949 – and a new governing structure was evolved.

2002

The European Commission launches with Europa Nostra the European Union Prize for Cultural Heritage/Europa Nostra Awards to promote best practices in the heritage field across Europe.

2010

 Placido Domingo is elected President of Europa Nostra and he continues to serve as President following re – election in 2015.

2018

European Cultural Heritage Summit in Berlin and Awards ceremony at Berlin Congress Centre, key events of the year of Cultural Heritage.
